At the end of September 2017, Ethiopia hosted a total of 883,546 refugees, making it the second largest refugee-hosting country in Africa. More than 99 percent of refugees in Ethiopia originate from four neighbouring countries: South Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea and Sudan.

Our Work in Ethiopia

JRS Ethiopia has well-established projects welcoming refugees in both urban and camp settings. JRS Ethiopia’s services include education, language classes, recreational initiatives, income-generating activities, emergency aid, and psychosocial services.

One of JRS’ projects in Ethiopia is the Refugee Community Centres (RCC) – unique facilities across Ethiopia that serve as havens for refugees and asylum seekers. At the RCCs, refugees receive educational and psychosocial support, gain new vocational skills, socialise, and build relationships with members of the refugee and host communities.

The Adi Harush camp is not equipped to handle the new number of refugees, and there is enormous pressure on the provision of shelter, water, latrines, food rations, and non-food items.
