Jordan continues to be a destination for refugees fleeing violence in neighbouring countries, especially Syria and Iraq. Jordan also hosts refugees from East African nations including Sudan, South Sudan, Eritrea, and Somalia. Close to 700,000 people sought international protection in Jordan in 2017.
Our work in Jordan
JRS Jordan runs two programmes to support urban refugees living in the city of Amman. In the Urban Refugee Support Programme, teams of trained psychosocial case managers visit the most vulnerable refugee families. During these visits, JRS staff are able to provide accompaniment and medical referrals. The programme also distributes cash assistance for basic needs. JRS Jordan also maintains three higher education centres where refugees can take courses in English, digital literacy, and psychosocial case management.
